Summerside peewee AAA team claims third straight tournament
The Summerside Chevys’ peewee AAA baseball team recently completed a natural hat trick.
The Chevys captured their third consecutive tournament of the season, winning the 16team Paul (Tubby) Melanson title in Moncton and Dieppe, N.B.
The Chevys went 2-1 in round-robin play. They defeated the Hammonds Plains Athletics 13-11 and Port City Pirates 5-0 while dropping an 11-4 decision to the Miramichi Twins.
The Chevys then pulled out an 8-3 win over the Charlottetown-based Capital District Islanders in the semifinals. That victory set up a rematch of the Summerside tournament final against the Kentville Wildcats, and when all was said and done the Chevys pulled out an 8-5 decision to finish with an overall record of 4-1.
Donovan Arsenault picked up the pitching win for the Chevys in the final. Cody McCormack, who contributed two hits and drove in three runs, came on in relief to earn his The Summerside Chevys won the peewee AAA title of the Paul (Tubby) Melanson baseball tournament in Moncton and Dieppe, N.B., over the weekend. Owen Lynch and Noah Gallant also had two hits each
while Jacob Dunn contributed a triple for Summerside.
The Chevys have also won the
Summerside invitational and East Coast Games tournaments this season.
