East Coast’s young trotters front and centre
During Tuesday night’s Old Home Week program
The top young trotters on the East Coast invade the Charlottetown Driving Park as Old Home Week racing continues Tuesday night.
First-race post time for the 13-dash card is 7 p.m., with the Atlantic Sires Stakes/Meridian Farms Trot Divisions in Races 1, 5 and 7 for the two-year-old trotters, and Races 3, 9 and 11 for the three-year-old trotters.
Pappy Go Go will try to guard his undefeated season in Race 9, with Post 5 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Grayland Farms of Pugwash, N.S.
The three-year-old son of Tad The Stud, bred by Meridian Farms in Milton, has been perfect in five starts in 2017, including a Truro Raceway track record of 1:59.4 in July.
Carrying a $6,220 purse, the race has five rivals trying to put a blemish on Pappy Go Go’s impressive accomplishment.
Race 3 is the first three-yearold trot division for a $6,220 purse, with Miss Neala Ridge the favourite for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald of Antigonish, N.S.
The final division in Race 11 has Majian Tango the likely favourite from Post 3 while riding a two-race win streak for trainer-driver Jim Ripley of Amherst, N.S.
The two-year-old divisions are headlined in Race 5 by the Myles Heffernan-driven Ticked reigniting his rivalry with fellow divisional leader Buckaroo for Campbell.
The other $6,240 Atlantic Sires Stakes/Meridian Farms’ events have Oceanview Eunomia favoured in Race 2, with Walter Cheverie driving for William Roloson of Belfast and Windemeredontuworry the morning-line choice in Race 7, with Terry Gallant training and driving.
Gallant shares the ownership of Windemeredontuworry with fellow Summerside resident Eric Johnston.
The second leg of the Alpine $5,000 Claiming Series is also featured on the program, with $1,750 divisions in Races 10 and 13.
