Islanders’ training camp almost here

Rookies report first, then veterans

The Charlottet­own Islanders’ training camp is right around the corner.

Rookie camp kicks it off Wednesday at the APM Centre in Cornwall.

The rookies start fitness training at 9 a.m., followed by an onice skills session at 11:30 a.m. A three-on-three tournament goes at 7 p.m., which is open to the public as are inter-squad and exhibition games.

Islanders’ newbies will play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Rookie Challenge tournament Friday through Sunday in Moncton, N.B., against teams from the Maritimes Division.

After the main camp begins, the Islanders take on the Moncton Wildcats in a pre-season exhibition game at the APM Centre on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Game time is 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults and seniors, $5 for students and youths. Only the rookie games are free.

Training camps rosters will be released later this week.

1 p.m. - Fitness testing at Synergy Fitness.

Tuesday, Aug. 22

11:30 a.m. - Team A practice. 12:30 p.m. - Team B practice. 7 p.m. - Inter-squad game (open to the public).

Wednesday, Aug. 23

11:30 a.m. - Pre-game skate for all game players.

12:15 p.m. - Practice for all nongame players.

7 p.m. - Moncton at Charlottet­own, exhibition, Cornwall.

Thursday, Aug. 24

11:30 a.m. - On-ice session.

Friday, Aug. 25

11:30 a.m. - Pre-game skate for all game players.

12:15 p.m. - Practice for all nongame players.

7 p.m. - Charlottet­own at Moncton, exhibition.

Saturday, Aug. 26

10:30 a.m. - Pre-game skate for all game players.

11:15 a.m. - Practice for all nongame players.

7 p.m. - Charlottet­own at AcadieBath­urst, exhibition.
