‘Math Magic’ receives award
Education 20/20 president Don Glendenning, centre, presents the 2017 Excellence in Education Award to coSolved Consulting’s Amber Jadis, left, and Nellie Keating, who partners with Jadis on the “Math Magic” project. Math Magic events will be held at the Confederation Centre Public Library and the Summerside library during Global Math Week. The show, intended to change the image of math in the minds of young people, is being developed by Jadis, a practicing engineer, and Keating, entertainer and co-founder of Halifax Circus School. They are also consulting with the School of Mathematical Science at UPEI and the P.E.I. Department of Education. Events will showcase some of the wonders of mathematics outside the school curriculum through comedy, mathematical magic, applied geometry and physics, fun math facts and some real examples of math in action. The presentations will revolve around basketballs, Rubik’s Cubes, a mobius strip and knot theorists untangling DNA.
