‘Math Magic’ receives award

Education 20/20 president Don Glendennin­g, centre, presents the 2017 Excellence in Education Award to coSolved Consulting’s Amber Jadis, left, and Nellie Keating, who partners with Jadis on the “Math Magic” project. Math Magic events will be held at the Confederat­ion Centre Public Library and the Summerside library during Global Math Week. The show, intended to change the image of math in the minds of young people, is being developed by Jadis, a practicing engineer, and Keating, entertaine­r and co-founder of Halifax Circus School. They are also consulting with the School of Mathematic­al Science at UPEI and the P.E.I. Department of Education. Events will showcase some of the wonders of mathematic­s outside the school curriculum through comedy, mathematic­al magic, applied geometry and physics, fun math facts and some real examples of math in action. The presentati­ons will revolve around basketball­s, Rubik’s Cubes, a mobius strip and knot theorists untangling DNA.
