Gallant, Blanchard will be part of NHL pre-season game in Summerside

Cory Gallant and Meaghan Blanchard will be the anthem singers for the Kraft Hockeyvill­e Game on Sept. 25 in Summerside.

The O’Leary Kraft Hockeyvill­e Committee made the announceme­nt on Friday.

Gallant, who grew up playing minor hockey in O’Leary, is a huge fan of the sport. He has been entertaini­ng people for the past 15 years, has played at the Calgary Stampede and toured Canada, US and Japan as a Tim McGraw impersonat­or.

Gallant is always helping the O’Leary and area community and will be a big part of the entertainm­ent during the outdoor festival on Sunday, Sept. 24, during the Kraft Hockeyvill­e winning weekend celebratio­n.

He is currently writing a new record of original material, which will be recorded in the spring.

Blanchard, an ECMA awardwinni­ng singer/songwriter, moved to the O’Leary area last year with her now husband Thomas Webb of Webb’s Vegetables. Blanchard has toured Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom and is working on her fourth studio album with Jim Bryson called the “Great Escape.”

“I have completely fallen in love with this community,” she said. “It really means a lot to be part of this. It makes me feel part of this beautiful vibrant community.”

The Hockeyvill­e game between the Ottawa Senators and the New Jersey Devils will be played at the Credit Union Place in Summerside on Sept. 25.

The final chance to enter the ticket lottery to see the game will be on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the O’Leary Legion. Lottery is open to 18 and older and must have photo ID and one document showing your mailing address.
