Programs announced
The Martha Spirituality Centre at SDU Place on Great George Street in Charlottetown will be offering a number of new programs this fall.
Women’s Spirituality Series is a book study “Dear Heart Come Home: the Path of Mid-Life Spirituality” authored by Joyce Rupp, beginning on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. and continuing on Oct. 16 and 30, Nov. 13 and 27 for the first five sessions with the second five sessions continuing in 2018. This book study is facilitated by Lynn DeLong. Registrations will be accepted until Sept. 15, so texts can be ordered in time. The cost is $40 or $20 for those who have the text.
Grace Series is a seven-part series being offered on Mondays, 10:30-11:45 p.m., Sept. 18 to Nov. 6. Titles include the Grace of Earth, the Grace of Atmosphere, the Grace of Oceans, the Grace of Fresh water, the Grace of Land, the Grace of Plant Life and the Grace of Animal Life. The cost is $30 for the series payable at the first session. It is facilitated by Sisters Gemma Dunn and Debbie Peters.
A book study of the “Grief Recovery Handbook”, authored by John James and Russel Friedman who have worked with grievers for more than 30 years, will be offered on six consecutive Wednesdays, Oct. 18 to Nov. 22, 9-11:30 a.m. This study, facilitated by Anne Gillis and Heather Carver, invites participants to consider how it is possible to recover from any kind of grief and regain energy and spontaneity.
Interested persons need to register by Sept. 30 so texts can be ordered on time. Cost is $40 or $20 for those who have the text.
Sessions on Ignatian spirituality are being Wednesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., on Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and 25 and Nov. 8 and 22, coordinated by Leah Michaud. These sessions are for anyone of any faith, who is seeking a deeper connection with God. Come, explore and discover what the practice of Ignatian spirituality has to offer in a rapidly changing world. Register on or before Sept. 25.
Contemplative Vision of the Mystics is a three-part series to explore the mystical experience that opens hearts to divine mystery and strengthens people to live lives with compassion and gratitude. Sessions are Thursdays, 7-8:30 p.m., on Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7, facilitated by Gilles Michaud. Cost is $20. Register on or before Sept. 30.
Psalms and Life is a threepart series offered by Rev. Keith Kennific on Tuesdays, 2-3:30 p.m., on Oct. 3, 10 and 17. Session 1 will focus on a psalm of praise, Session 2 will focus on a psalm of sorrow, and Session 3 will focus on a “cursing” psalm. The cost is $20. Register on or before Sept. 30.
The Canada 150 Catholic Faith Heritage presentations focus on recognized Canadian saints with the following schedule: Sept. 18, 7 p.m., Rev. Albin Arsenault on the life of St. Andre of Montreal; Oct. 23, 7 p.m., Rev. Trevor Scott SJ from Montreal on the life and witness of the Canadian martyrs; Nov. 6, 7 p.m., Sr. Regina MacQuaid cnd on the life of St. Marguerite ‘Youville; Nov. 20, Sr. Elizabeth Dunn cnd on the life of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys; Dec. 4, Graydon Nicholas on the life of St. Kateri Tekawitha.
