Campbell sweeps CDP features

- Compiled by Nicholas Oakes for Red Shores

There is no catching Marc Campbell in the 2017 driving standings at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Winsloe reinsman had four wins on the 12-dash card to further solidify his lead at the capital oval during the Thursday program, which included a feature victory with Elm Grove Kaboom in 1:55.2.

Trained by Earl Smith for owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield, Elm Grove Kaboom controlled the race early in the mile with fractions of 28.2, 57.2 and 1:26.4, before cruising to his two-andthree-quarter length victory.

Mozartsplace (driven by Gilles Barrieau) was second in the $1,900 event, with Capitalism (Jason Hughes) third.

The $1,850 open trot was part of a Campbell sweep of the feature events as his own trainee, Freddie, visited the winner’s circle after a 1:59.4 score over Wedgewood (Gary Chappell) and Dusty Lane Jacob (Adam Merner). Freddie is owned by the Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.

Campbell also scored with Nikes Cowgirl from his own stable for a 1:57.4 victory for owner James Struthers of Port Morien, N.S., while his other win was notched with Rojans White Jet in 1:59.1 for trainer Clair Sweet of O’Leary.

Corey MacPherson scored a driving triple on the program.

Gilles Barrieau had a driving double on the card.

Live racing continues Saturday at 6 p.m., featuring the Lady Slipper and Joe O’Brien Memorial Stakes.
