Westisle Composite

High School

The Credit Union Fitness Centre is now up and running. Many students are taking advantage of the facility during lunch, and all are encouraged to try the free CrossFit program running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-3:45 p.m.

The athletic department is also running a new competition, Who Is Westisle’s Biggest Fan? To participate, simply check the schedules posted outside the gym door to see when our teams play. Attend the game, but don’t forget to take a selfie with the game going on in the background. Post picture to Twitter or Instagram with the tag #wolverine-west. This will enter person into a draw for two free movie tickets.

The Halloween dance is Thursday, Oct. 26 from 7-10 p.m.

Westisle students will not have school on Oct. 19-20, due to the P.E.I. Teachers’ Federation Convention.

Westisle’s food drive is Oct. 12 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Students will be collecting food in the West Prince area for local food banks.

The school sent seven students and one advisor to the Canadian Leadership Conference in Waterloo, Ont. Sept. 26-30. They took part in workshops, seminars and heard keynote speakers while networking with student leaders and advisors from across the country.

Student delegates were: Olivia Batten, Aleisha Meggison, Justine Cormier, Ethan Oliver, Nick McRae, Alexie Skerry and Lyndsay Callaghan. Advisor was Darcy Harris.

Montague Regional High School

The MRHS Disney Choir, in conjunction with Chuckwagon Farms will be hosting Friday The Thirteenth at the Haunted Corn Maze in Eldon on Friday, Oct. 13 from dusk until 10 p.m. Come and meet Jason in the corn. Cost is $13.

Colleges and universities will be set up in the school cafeteria on October 11 at 1:15-3 p.m. to assist students with postsecondary choices. Grade 12 students will have the entire afternoon. Grade 10 and 11 students will have an opportunity to visit as well.

Kinkora Regional High School

Career Day takes place this afternoon for all Grade 11 and 12 students. This is a great way to start planning your future. Universities, colleges and other post-secondary options will have booths set up in the gym where students can go and ask questions.

The KRHS Frozen Pie fundraiser continues until Oct. 16. All pies come frozen and ready to bake, with the exception of the pumpkin pie which is thaw and serve. To place an order, contact a KRHS student or call the school at 902-887-2424.

The 37th annual KRHS Terry Fox Run was held Sept. 22 with all funds raised going to cancer research. This year the school raised $870. Congratulations to Molly Millman and Liam Arsenault who raised the most pledge money.

October is Canadian Library Month. Events at KRHS include library trivia, with great prizes and book recommendations. The library is open every day before school, at breaks, at noon and after school.

Appreciation is expressed to teacher librarian Shelley Tremere.

Students and staff at KRHS were pleased to help support the Farm Credit Canada Drive Away Hunger Food Drive again this year. The school has participated for the past 10 years.

This year we collected 933 pounds of food for the South Shore Food Share serving the communities of Borden-Carleton, Kinkora, and Crapaud.

Souris Regional School

It has been a busy month at Souris Regional School.

Students finished September off with the Fall Formal Much Video Dance. There was a great crowd and everyone had a blast.

October started off with a Thanksgiving food drive. Students collected lots of food for the local food bank. This week the junior high students will be running through the dark halls during the Humans Versus Zombies Night. Preparation is also under way for the second annual haunted woods, with lots more in the works.

Morell Regional High School

The MRHS library fundraiser is Oct. 11.

Morell High students will be at Charlottetown’s Indigo store for a school fundraiser. That night 20 per cent of the sales will be donated to the school’s library for the purchase of new materials.

MRHS students will be at the store from 6-9 p.m. to help out with book or gift shopping.

Charlottetown Rural High School

The Student Council welcomes Adam MacKenzie as the Grade 10 representative. Appreciation is expressed all the candidates who put their names forward. All are welcome to participate in the council as nonexecutive members.

CRHS will be hosting Post Secondary Day on the morning of Oct. 12 for Grade 11 and 12 students. There will be representatives from Atlantic Canada’s universities, colleges and private institutions.

CRHS student Abby Gibson travelled to Ottawa last week for Rencontres Canada (Encounters with Canada) on a bursary from Canadian Parents for French.

Rotary will hold a Rotary youth exchange information session in the lecture theatre of CRHS on Monday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. for parents and students who wish to participate in this great adventure. Any students interested in going on exchange during the 2018-19 school year and their parents should plan to attend.

Heckbert Studio will be at Rural to take grad photos on Oct. 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17. Online sign-up links are available on our school website www.therural.ca. All students must be photographed by Heckbert Studio for inclusion in the Class of 2018 yearbook and composite photo. Please note, the full session link is for a paid $12 full sitting while the yearbook link is for those who only require a free photo. All yearbook photos will be taken on Oct. 18. Students are asked to sign up for one time and contact Mrs. Hughes if there are any questions.

Congratulations to CRHS students who competed at the Xcountry meet in Belfast, Maine last weekend.

CRHS students who achieved honours (80 per cent in 8 courses last year) were recognized recently at the honours assembly.

Students from Grade 11 and 12 IB classes organized the annual Terry Fox Run/Walk last Thursday with staff and students taking part in the event. Fund raising is still wrapping up with a goal to exceed all previous years’ totals. Stay tuned to next Monday’s Guardian for the grand total.

Colonel Gray High School

Appreciation is extended to all CGHS Terry Fox Run participants, sponsors, student committee, as well as organizers, Gordie Cox and Greg Chandler. This year’s run raised over $9,200 for cancer research.

Coats for Kids Campaign is now underway at Colonel Gray. Gently used winter jackets, hats, mittens and boots, of any size, can be dropped off to the bin outside student services. These will be cleaned and donated to Island families.

Math and Science student help is held in the library conference Room 112 during lunch on Days 1, 3 and 5 of the supervision schedule.

On Oct. 20, UPEI is hosting an open house from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. where application fees are waived ($50 value) and students can get on-site admission. There will be campus tours, as well as faculty information sessions in arts, business, nursing and science. RSVP at bit.ly/upeiopenhouse2017. This is Friday of PEITF Convention, so it doesn’t interfere with regular classes at Colonel Gray.

Rotary Youth Exchange will hold an Information Session at Charlottetown Rural High School Lecture Theatre on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. for parents and students who wish to participate in this great adventure.

Bluefield High School

On Thursday, Oct. 12, Bluefield will open “Blue Bistro Meals”, hosted by Mr. Nabuurs Culinary class.

The school is hosting a postsecondary session for parents and students on Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Friday, starting at 9 a.m. Representatives from Carleton University and Queen’s University will be at Bluefield High School in the upcoming weeks. Sign up in Student Services.
