Evangeline advances

In P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n playoffs

The Evangeline Coyotes are moving on in the P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n Senior A Boys Soccer League playoffs.

Chad Arsenault scored two goals as the sixth-seeded Coyotes pulled out a 2-1 road victory over the third-seeded Morell Marlins (4-1-2) in quarter-final action on Monday.

Cole Mosher replied for Morell, which trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Evangeline, which entered the playoffs 2-4-1 (won-lost-tied), will visit the No. 1-seeded Colonel Gray Colonels in one of two semifinal games on Wednesday. The fourth-seeded Charlottet­own Rural Raiders will meet second-seeded Francois Buote in the other semifinal.

Morell entered the playoffs with a record of 4-1-2.

The Raiders (4-2-1) edged the Souris Spartans (3-3-1) by a 2-1 score.

Owen Arnett and Alex Ryan scored for Rural while Ben MacIsaac answered for Souris.

The Raiders led 1-0 at halftime.

Girls

In senior A girls’ play, Katelyn Visser’s first-half goal proved to be the difference as fifth-seeded Montague (3-4-0) pulled out a 1-0 road win over the fourthseed­ed Westisle Wolverines (34-0).

Lydia Smith recorded the shutout.

The other quarter-final match featured third-seeded Charlottet­own Rural (5-2-0) posting a 4-1 victory over sixth-seeded Souris (2-5-0).

Riley Chappell and Maggie Rae Dennis each scored twice for Rural, which took a 3-1 lead into halftime. Hailee Grenier netted the lone marker for Souris.

Wednesday’s semifinal matchups will feature Montague visiting top-seeded KISHORA in Kensington, and second-seeded Morell hosting Rural. KISHORA is a combined team of Kensington Intermedia­te-Senior High School and Kinkora Regional High School.

Senior AAA

In senior AAA quarter-final action, Hillary Gaudet’s secondhalf goal lifted the sixth-seeded Three Oaks girls (3-7-0) to a 1-0 win over third-seeded Bluefield (4-4-2). Jade Gallant recorded the clean sheet for the Axewomen.

The Axewomen advance to face No. 1-seeded and defending-champion Charlottet­own Rural on Wednesday in one semifinal that will be a rematch of last year’s gold-medal game. The other semifinal will feature No. 3 Colonel Gray at No. 2 Westisle.

In senior AAA boys’ quarter-final action, fifth-seeded Charlottet­own Rural (4-5-1) registered a 2-1 decision on the road over fourth-seeded Montague (4-4-2).

Owen Brown and AJ Janah provided Rural’s goals. Gabe Inman countered for Montague.

The teams were tied 1-1 at halftime.

The third-seeded Bluefield boys (4-4-2) doubled sixthseede­d Three Oaks (3-7-0) 4-2 in the other quarter-final match under the lights at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall. No game details were available at deadline time.

The senior A and AAA medal games will take place at UPEI and the Terry Fox Sports Complex this weekend.
