Delta Prince Edward bringing in Platinum Blonde to headline party night

It worked so well the first time, the Delta Prince Edward Hotel in Charlottetown plans to rock in the new year by again going back to the 1980s.

Mark Gregory, director of food and beverage for the hotel, said Canadian rock band Platinum Blonde will headline its New Year’s Eve show this year.

An estimated 1,300 people turned out last year for Haywire and Royal North, the first time the Delta had put its own spin on New Year’s Eve.

“That was our first time ever doing that, and it went really well,’’ Gregory said.

“As far as the format goes, we’re doing exactly the same thing.’’

Between 1983 and 1987, Platinum Blonde posted nine top 50 singles and one No. 1 hit in Canada with “Crying Over You’’. The band now consists of members Mark Holmes, Sergio Galli and Daniel Todd.

Lady Soul will serve as the opening act.

“They (Lady Soul) have a pretty big band of more than 10 people (with) a big horn section, too. They play a lot of classic diva songs, really cool funky stuff.

“They’re going to play instrumentally during dinner, which is new from last year, and then, at 9 o’clock when the (general

admission) doors open the full band is going to go on stage and they’re going to be the opening act. That should get people pretty pumped up. They’re a pretty lively act.’’

Completing the trifecta, Copycat will take the stage after Platinum Blonde is finished. Three of the four members

of Copycat also play in

Royal North.

“Copycat plays a lot of covers of classic hits . . . a good party band,’’ Gregory said.

As was the case last year, there will be a VIP section featuring a dinner buffet before the concert starts. It comes with a private dance floor, private

bar and a table and chair the ticket buyer keeps for the night.

General admission tickets are also available with the doors opening at 9 p.m.

The evening will also include a countdown to midnight.

Gregory said hotel rooms are available, but selling fast.
