Christmas fast approaching
‘A Down Home Christmas’ returns for 12th season
Christmas is near and plans are underway once again for the “A Down Home Christmas” concert series.
This holiday concert series hosted by Janet McGarry and her husband, Serge Bernard, is celebrating its 12th season this year, starting with its first concert to be held at St. Mary’s Parish Centre in Montague, on Saturday, Nov. 25, 7 p.m.
“Christmas is a wonderful time for families, gatherings and light-hearted fun. Come join us and discover the joy of A Down Home Christmas,” McGarry says.
“We have a unique selection of songs from the early days of country and old-time music, performed in the old cabin front porch styles with fiddle, banjo and harmonies steeped in the traditions of the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky, East Tennessee and Western Virginia where these sounds originated.”
McGarry and Bernard will be on stage with Wildwood bandmates Gail Mullen, Dylan Ferguson and Denise MacLeod, all Island-based artists, with whom they are proud to tour the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music circuit.
Each concert features traditional and contemporary Christmas music set in an acoustic style. The sounds of gospel, old-time country and bluegrass music will ring Christmas on the old fivestring banjo, mandolin, flattop guitar, doghouse bass and
fiddle.
Admission is at the door, with a portion of proceeds going to each venue.
