A Christmas tradition continues

Docherty Family Christmas concert returns to St. Mark’s Church

-

St. Marks Church in Charlottetown has hosted a talented Island musical family for the past 20 years.

And that relationship continues Sunday, Nov. 26, when the Docherty Family Band makes a return visit.

“The Docherty Family Christmas Concert has always been the official launch to the Advent Season at St. Mark’s. It has become a tradition at our church that we look forward to each year,” says Rev. Tom Hamilton. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

The show will feature Kendall on lead vocals and piano, Jason on bass guitar and vocals, Timothy on lead guitar and vocals and their father, George Docherty, guitar, harmonica, fiddle and vocals, along with Peter Burke on drums.

The show will include Christmas classics like “White Christmas”, “Silent Night” and “Memories of an Old Christmas Card” as well as heart-warming holiday stories told by Kendall.

The doors will be open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance from Lois MacFadyen at 902-368-8246 as well as at the door.

There will also be a fudge sale the night of the concert.

The relationship between St. Marks and the Docherty Family Band began in 1997 when the band was invited to perform at a fundraiser for the building fund for the new church that was to be built on the corner of Pine Drive and Brackley Point Road.

That initial concert led to members of the Docherty family returning year after year to perform their Christmas show.
