Reports Students participate in Youth Parliament
Bluefield High School
Now that the Provincial Legislature has opened for another sitting, Bluefield is proud to have Esther Purias represent its school as a participant in the page program.
This past weekend, Brianna O’Connor, Megan Stewart and Abby Craswell took to the floor of Legislative Assembly as participants in the Rotary Youth Parliament. The Rotary Clubs of P.E.I. have organized this annual two-day event for P.E.I. high school students for over 20 years. Students acted as MLAs during the event and have the opportunity to present and debate acts and resolutions on the floor of the legislature. The school appreciates Rotary for providing students with this opportunity.
Heckbert Studio Summerside will be at the school to take grad photos from Nov. 27 – Dec. 5. Appointments must be booked ahead of time. Students can do so online through the graduation picture appointment link that is found on the Bluefield School webpage.
Ms. Perry’s Foods 421 classes appreciate Laura Bevan, Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I., and Chef Aaron Ferrill for offering the Discover Culinary presentation. The students gained knowledge of the tourism sector and jobs in the culinary field and took part in an interactive cooking demonstration.
Montague Regional High School
It’s SADD week at MRHS. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions. Members will take part in educational activities to promote awareness in terms of the dangers of distracted driving this week.
The student artwork showcase is at Artisans on Main Gallery until Dec. 2. All proceeds go to the students.
Student council will host a semi formal Christmas dance on Dec. 1 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will be on sale this week. All student and athletic fees must be paid prior to purchasing a dance ticket.
Charlottetown Rural High School
A representative from the University of New Brunswick will be at student services on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
UPEI and Holland College will hold a lunch and learn in the lecture theatre on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Students and parents are invited to meet with the admissions teams and ask any questions they may have. Pizza will be provided. Students must sign up in Student Services. Note the change of date.
The CRHS Rudolph Campaign has started. This is an initiative to support families in need from our community during the holiday season. Anyone wanting to help may donate new or gently used toys and games, hygiene items, nonperishable food items, gift cards for Walmart or other locations, gas cards as well as donations to help the school help Rudolph shine a light at Christmas time. On Friday, Dec. 8, nine CRHS students will join together with 15 other P.E.I. high school students to compete in an art battle at Montague Regional High School from 6-8 p.m. This is a charity event, with donations at the door going to a Mothers helping Mothers Campaign called You Are Not Alone this Christmas. Friends and family are welcome. Pieces will be auctioned off at the end of the night and 75 per cent will be for the artist to take the other 25 per cent for the charity.
The fifth annual CRHS art auction is underway. Art students at Charlottetown Rural are auctioning off artwork in order to support the P.E.I. Humane Society. All of the money raised will go directly to this cause. The auction runs online at http://rthaines.wordpress.com until midnight on Dec. 10.

Colonel Gray High School
A Mount Allison University representative will be in student services today at lunch, and University of New Brunswick on Thursday.
Welcome to new teachers, Greg Sheppard and Sherri May, joining Colonel Gray staff for the remainder of the semester, as well as two new educational assistants, Courtney Crosby and Jasmin Geary.
The music department Christmas concert is Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Recent changes to the Community Service Bursary (CSB) now permit students in Grades 10-12 to accumulate volunteer hours, calculated at a rate of $5 per hour. Students need to register at www.studentloan@gov.pe.ca or by calling 368-4640 to accumulate a minimum of 30 hours, up to a maximum of 150 hours. CSB hours will then be credited to the student’s post-secondary account when starting university or college. See bulletin board in student services for possible volunteer opportunities.
Kinkora Regional High School
Appreciation is expressed to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 Borden-Carleton for participating in the school’s Remembrance Day Service. Also to Peter Wynne and the KRHS band, Ryan McAleer, Grace Smith, Elisa Carota, Shiane Simpson, Callie Thomson, Rebecca Green, Molly Millman, Mya Farris, Dakota MacWilliams, Amber Harvey, Maura Duffy and Liam Arsenault.
Appreciation also goes to Peter Wynne and the KRHS band members for participating in local Remembrance Day services in Borden-Carleton and Kinkora on Nov. 11.
