Arsenault’s hat trick keys Metros’ OT win in Tignish

Smith, Sellick have big games for Aces

Owen Arsenault provided the overtime magic for the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros on Sunday night.

Arsenault’s third goal of the game lifted the Metros to a 7-6 road win over the Tignish Perry’s Constructi­on Aces in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

The win improved the leaguelead­ing Metros’ record to 12-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). The second-place Aces fell to 7-3-2.

At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, Jake Arsenault (2), Logan Toole (1-2) and Derian Vessey also lit the lamp for the Metros. Brechan MacLean contribute­d two assists.

For the Aces, Brydon Smith netted a hat trick and assisted on another while Dawson Sellick had two goals and three assists to lead the way offensivel­y. Jayden Arthur also scored, and Colton Chaisson added two helpers.

The Metros led 4-0 after one period, and 4-1 following 40 minutes.

On Saturday, Will Tuplin capped Tignish’s comeback by scoring with two minutes remaining in regulation time to break a 5-5 tie, and lift the goaltender was Aces to a 6-5 road win over the Southside Lynx at the South Shore Actiplex.

Brydon Smith’s goal with 6:28 left in regulation time tied the game for the Aces. Brayden Handrahan (1-3), Brady Albert, Dawson Sellick and Brayden Arsenault also scored for the Aces.

Tyson Beckingham (2), Riley Payne (1-1), Nick VanderVeld­en and Cameron Nelson replied for the Lynx.

Tignish took a 2-0 lead into the first intermissi­on, but the teams were tied 3-3 following 40 minutes.

Andrew Gallant picked up the goaltendin­g win. Overall, the Aces outshot the Lynx 36-26.
