QCUPE-P.E.I. and Cinema Politica Charlottetown will show the documentary, “Miners Shot Down”, on Jan. 29, 7 p.m., in the CUPE-P.E.I. office, 26 Paramount Dr., Charlottetown. The multiaward-winning film tells the story of mineworkers at one of South Africa’s biggest platinum mines, who in 2012 began a strike for better wages. Six days later the police, in a brutal attempt to suppress the strike, killed 34 and injured many more. Beautifully shot, sensitively told, with a haunting soundtrack, Miners Shot Down leaves audiences with an uncomfortable view of just who profits from minerals in the global South.
