The funeral for Albert Eugene Gallant was held on February 24, 2018 from Dingwell Funeral Home to St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Souris, P.E., where the Mass was presided over by Father Jim Willick who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The eucharisti­c minister was Lorna Whitty, and alter servers were Charlie MacDonald, Jimmy MacDonald, Stephen MacDonald, and John MacKinnon. The pall was placed on the casket by Albert’s children Gary, Muriel MacLeod, Richard, and Gerard. The readings were proclaimed by Gerard Gallant and Gina MacDonald who also led the Assembly in the Prayers of the Faithful. The church choir sang “We Shall Go Out with Hope of Resurrecti­on” as the family entered the church. The organist was Claire Gallant assisted by Al Ryan. During the mass the church choir led the Assembly in singing the responsori­al psalm “The Lord’s My Shepherd”, “On Eagles Wings” during the Preparatio­n of the Gifts, “Eat This Bread” for the Communion procession­al hymn, and “Songs of the Angels” for the final commendati­on. Granddaugh­ter Kaleigh Gallant performed a horn solo for the recessiona­l “Be Not Afraid.” Honorary pallbearer­s were all in attendance. Pallbearer­s were Ernie Gallant, Trent Jamieson, Andy MacDonald, Donald MacPhee, Louis MacPhee, and Marcel Pineau. Flower bearers were Albert’s grandchild­ren. Interment took place in the St. Charles church cemetery. Following the interment, everyone was invited to join the family in the church vestry for a reception provided by the ladies of St. Charles Parish.
