Mainland pacers meet in Summerside

-

A pair of top-notch mainland pacers will take on some of P.E.I.’s finest overnight pacers in topclass action Sunday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The 12-dash program starts at 1 p.m. with the top class going to gate in Race 11 for a $2,200 purse.

K D Overdrive has been installed as the favourite as the New Brunswick pacer ships in after last racing at Bangor Raceway in Maine. Stephen Mason trains the winner of 21 lifetime races for owner Stephen Downey of Quispamsis, N.B. Corey MacPherson receives the catch-driving call in the feature and will leave from Post 4 with K D Overdrive.

Goliaths Reigns also makes the trek from the mainland for the top event, fresh off a pair of wins at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, N.B. Dale Spence drives the winner of $96,000 in purses for Truro, N.S., trainer Dawn Ellis Abbott.

Race analyst Bo Ford goes a different direction and looks at Post 5 starter Likely To Win to visit the winner’s circle at 4-1 morningline odds. Adam Merner will drive the Melissa Rennie-trainee as he drops out of preferred action into his Sunday contest.

“You want to serve this horse at or above the morning line and we will be a happy camper,” Ford said of Likely To Win. “He got kicked out the back in his last start, but there will be no out the back today. On the class drop, catch him if you can.”
