Two and a Half Sopranos this evening at UPEI
The UPEI Department of Music Recital Series will present Two and a Half Sopranos today at 7:30 p.m., featuring Rebecca Apps, soprano, Hannah O’Donnell, mezzo soprano, Sung Ha Shin Bouey, soprano, and pianists Paul Rodermond and Frances Gray.

Apps has portrayed numerous roles including Fiordiligi in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” (Centre for Opera Studies in Italy), Clomiri in the Toronto premier of Handel’s “Imeneo” (U of T Opera) and Mimi in Puccini’s “La bohème”. Her extensive training has also led her to numerous competitions. An alumna of several summer programs, including the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy and the St. Andrews-by-the-Sea Opera Workshop, she currently holds a masters of music in opera performance from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, a bachelor of music in vocal performance from UPEI and a diploma in musical theatre performance from St. Lawrence College.
O’Donnell has a number of recent opera credits. They include the title role in Menotti’s “The Medium” (St. John’s), Ruggiero in Handel’s “Alcina” (Lucca, Italy) and Marcellina in Mozart’s “The of Marriage Figaro” (Charlottetown). She recently performed the premiere of “Cantata for Canada 150”, a commission with the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mark Shapiro (Juilliard Opera) as well as her debut performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. She her master of music in vocal performance and pedagogy from Memorial University of Newfoundland and her machelor of music from UPEI. She is on the School of Performing Arts faculty at Holland College and teaches privately.
Soprano Sung Ha Shin-Bouey is a prize winner of several international vocal competitions, including the Britten Prize in England and the Francisco Viñas in Spain. She received a bachelor of music degree in performance and an honours opera diploma from University of Toronto and a master of music in performance (minor in choral conducting) from University of Victoria. She attended vocal and opera programs at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Britten-Pears School of Music for Advanced Studies in England, and career development studies in England, Italy, and Germany. She has performed numerous recitals in Canada, Italy, Germany, England, the United States and Israel, been featured on television and radio and performed with groups and choirs around the world. With extensive background as a choir director, she is currently an associate professor at UPEI, where she is the director of the vocal and choral programs. She is also the founder and the music director of Le Ragazze, a P.E.I. girls performing ensemble.
