-

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s and women’s soccer teams doubled down on Crandall as each shut out the Chargers 5-0 in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) action Wednesday in Cornwall.

With the wins, the Holland College men maintain the lead in the ACAA standings at 6-2-1 while on the women’s side the ‘Canes stay in third at 6-3

In the women’s game, Kathrine McEwen scored in the 25th and 30th minutes and goalkeeper Hailey Terstege did the rest. Laura Wells, Ali Fahie and T-Anna Fraser had the other goals.

Wells said she was OK with the team’s performance.

“We had a strong game. We moved the ball well and the communication was there. I’d like to see a little more movement off the ball, but if we play like we did tonight we should have a good performance against Dal AC on Saturday,” said Wells.

On the men’s side, Shunya Kobayashi scored twice for the men’s ‘Canes in the second half, while Aleco Iatrou, Bobby Gamba and Alex Lourenso salted away the game with first-half goals.

Brandon Lund earned the nono.

Iatrou said he was happy with the teams bounce-back performance.

“I thought our game against Crandall went really well in all aspects. This weekend we will have to keep moving off the ball, communicate well, and focus on our goal of finishing the season strong,” latrou said.

Saturday the Hurricanes return to the field against the Dal-AC Rams in Truro, N.S.

The women kick things off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
