Students busy with fall activities
Morell Regional
High School
A reminder that there will be no classes this Friday as it is a Provincial Learning Day for teachers.
A meeting for parents of graduating students will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria to discuss important points of interest. The school encourages graduates to connect with Mrs. Munn, the guidance counsellor to discuss post-secondary plans, application deadlines, references or any other information that may be required.
The library is currently running several writing contests. Students are encouraged to stop in and learn more about submitting works of poetry and prose.
The music department is holding its annual Haunted House fund-raiser on Oct. 24-25. This is open to the public. All funds will be used to support the band program. There will also be a bake sale.
The student council magazine campaign wrapped up last week and appreciation is expressed to everyone who supported this worthwhile cause.
Student council is holding a Halloween dance on Oct. 25, from 8-11 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for costumes.
Charlottetown Rural High School
A Rotary Youth Exchange information session will be held on Oct 22, 7 p.m., at Colonel Gray High School’s lecture theatre. All high school students interested in an international student exchange for the 2019-2020 school year are encouraged to attend this session with at least one parent/guardian.
Grade 11 student Jensen Wood participated in the International Day of the Girl Child. On Oct. 11 she was one of 27 young women from across the province who filled the 27 seats in the Legislative Assembly for an all-day event that focused on P.E.I.’s Famous Five.
A representative from Queen’s University will be in the library classroom on Wednesday, 9 a.m., to meet with interested students.
There will be no classes on Friday, Oct. 19 due to a professional development day for teachers.
Montague Regional High School
The school will hold a career expo on Oct. 30, 8:45- 11:45 a.m., where students will have the opportunity to attend their chosen career information sessions. Career professionals will be on hand to share insight into occupations.
A reminder to watch for SAS interim reports coming home on Oct. 18.
Oct. 19 is a Provincial Learning Day, so there are no classes.
On Oct. 22 there is a parent council meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Grade 12 students are reminded that if they are volunteering with organizations, they must register with Community Services Bursary in order to accumulate hours. If they have any questions they visit Student Services.
Kinkora Regional High School
School photo re-takes are Thursday. There is also a dance from 8-11 p.m.
Provincial learning day is Friday. There will be no classes.
The annual KRHS Frozen Pie Fundraiser continues until Oct. 16. Various flavours are available.

Jessica Reeves facilitates the Academy Diploma Program in Agriculture and BioScience at KRHS. The Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus High School Induction Day in Truro, N.S. is Oct. 25 for all Grade 11/12 ADP students. Students will tour the campus and explore the programs. They will also participate in a plant science and an animal science hands-on lab in the afternoon. On our way home, we will be touring the new butchery and creamery at Masstown Market.
The Credit Canada Drive Away Hunger Food Drive wrapped up Oct. 5. This year the school collected 1133 pounds of food.
Colonel Gray High School
Photo ID cards and portrait proof packages have been distributed to students. The due date for on-line orders to Life Touch is today. For any student previously missed being photographed, or with unsatisfactory pictures, retake day is Oct. 30.
There will be a Grade 12 parent information meeting on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the gym. Find out about university and scholarship applications, important deadlines, transcript process, as well as other need-to-know information. Representatives from UPEI will also be in attendance.
A representative from Queen’s University will be visiting Student Services over lunch on Oct. 17. A St. Mary’s University rep will visit at the same time on Oct. 24.
The Provincial Learning Day is Oct. 19, with no classes for students.
The Rotary Youth Exchange Program information meeting will be held Oct. 22, 7 p.m., in the Colonel Gray Lecture Theatre. Use the student/visitor parking lot closest to downtown – last entrance. Interested 2019 exchange students, as well as parents, should attend.
Westisle Composite High School
The Well-Being team is accepting referrals for the 20182019 school year. Westisle’s school nurse, Alicia Doyle, will be in room 400 every Thursday to help students with mental and physical health, stress, anxiety, etc. Students can self-refer and are encouraged to visit Alicia with any questions.
Rising Youth community service grants are available again. Students must come up with an idea for an event, activity, presentation or production they would like to hold in their community. They must write a proposal on how their event will benefit a group in their community. The grant is available for $250-$1500. For more information visit the website at www.risingyouth.ca.

The SHAD program is accepting applications again. SHAD conferences give students from Grade 10-12 with high potential the opportunity to spend the summer living at a university while learning hands-on about entrepreneurship. Three Westisle students have attended in past summers and will be putting on a short presentation at an undetermined date if there is enough interest. Applications close Nov 19.
Universities are beginning presentations at Westisle as well as open houses. Here’s the list: UPEI, Oct. 12, with an open house on Nov. 9; a visit from University of King’s College on Nov. 19; St. Thomas on Nov. 20 and UNB on Nov. 28.
