The funeral for Les Kelly, formerly of Kelly’s Cross, was held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kelly’s Cross. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Ashook Veerabathi­na, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Sandra Kelly. The first reading, from Ecclesiast­es, was addressed by Phyllis Smith, who also led the Prayers of the Faithful. The second reading, from II Timothy, was addressed by Gary Hughes. The cross bearer was Elaine Molyneaux. The altar servers were Gary Hughes and Noreen Sherren. The bulletins were passed out by uncle and aunt, Joe and Ev Kelly. Elaine Molyneaux also assisted Father Ashook as a eucharisti­c minister. The music was provided by the church choir with Darlene Lowther as song leader. The hymns were: Entrance, “Come Back To Me”; Psalm, “The Lord Is My Shepherd”; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Celtic Alleluia”, with Darlene Lowther as Cantor; offertory, “Come to the Water”, sung by Darlene Lowther; communion, “In the Garden”; post communion, “Peace is Flowing”; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “Lord Jesus, of You I Will Sing”. Honorary Pallbearer­s were everyone present. Pallbearer­s were Harold MacLeod, Mike Clark, Ken Kelly, Ron Myers, Gordon Mayhew and Tom MacLean. Flower bearers were Jamie Donahue, Amanda Mayhew and Natalie Kelly. Interment took place in St. Joseph’s cemetery where Father Ashook conducted the committal service. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
