Man fined for pass­ing bus

A 24-year-old man was fined after pass­ing a stopped school bus dis­play­ing flash­ing red lights in Sum­mer­side Tues­day morn­ing.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred Nov. 6 at 8:20 a.m. just out­side a day­care on Pope Road.

The bus driver and an­other nearby wit­ness were able to pro­vide in­for­ma­tion al­low­ing po­lice to iden­tify the ve­hi­cle and driver in­volved.

The driver was is­sued a sum­mary of­fence ticket which car­ries a min­i­mum fine of $1,000 and a fur­ther penalty of eight de­merit points upon con­vic­tion.

Sum­mer­side po­lice re­ceived two other sim­i­lar com­plaints this week of ve­hi­cles not stop­ping for buses. Those in­ci­dents re­main un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion, and fur­ther charges are ex­pected.
