A 27-year-old Summerside man is in custody after a home invasion with a weapon occurred at a Summerside residence on Thursday.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, Summerside police received a 911 call reporting a home invasion in progress at a residence on Summer Street.

Two teenage girls were at home at the time the suspect entered the residence. Both stayed in the upper level of the house and could hear the suspect rummaging through the residence.

The girls contacted their father and grandfather. The grandfather, who lives nearby, entered the residence and found the suspect inside, armed with a knife.

After being confronted by the grandfather, the suspect fled the home and police were contacted.

The grandfather and another witness were able to keep the suspect in sight until police arrived and took him into custody.

No one was injured during the incident.

On Friday, Kevin Lee Walsh appeared in court to answer to charges of home invasion and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was remanded into custody by consent until his next court appearance, which will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. for a show cause hearing.
