Sum­mer­side man in cus­tody fol­low­ing home in­va­sion

A 27-year-old Sum­mer­side man is in cus­tody af­ter a home in­va­sion with a weapon oc­curred at a Sum­mer­side res­i­dence on Thurs­day.

Just be­fore 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, Sum­mer­side po­lice re­ceived a 911 call re­port­ing a home in­va­sion in progress at a res­i­dence on Sum­mer Street.

Two teenage girls were at home at the time the sus­pect en­tered the res­i­dence. Both stayed in the up­per level of the house and could hear the sus­pect rum­mag­ing through the res­i­dence.

The girls con­tacted their fa­ther and grand­fa­ther. The grand­fa­ther, who lives nearby, en­tered the res­i­dence and found the sus­pect in­side, armed with a knife.

Af­ter be­ing con­fronted by the grand­fa­ther, the sus­pect fled the home and po­lice were con­tacted.

The grand­fa­ther and an­other wit­ness were able to keep the sus­pect in sight un­til po­lice ar­rived and took him into cus­tody.

No one was in­jured dur­ing the in­ci­dent.

On Fri­day, Kevin Lee Walsh ap­peared in court to an­swer to charges of home in­va­sion and pos­ses­sion of a weapon for a dan­ger­ous pur­pose. He was re­manded into cus­tody by con­sent un­til his next court ap­pear­ance, which will be Tues­day at 1:30 p.m. for a show cause hear­ing.
