Jean, born on May 14, 1923, daughter of Fred and Annie (Boswell) MacRae passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2018 at New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital. After her

Tom Mitchell, they lived in Canada,

England and Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) before returning Canada in 1953. As a result of Tom’s employment as a commercial pilot, teacher, member of the Ground Observer Corps. and Anglican priest they lived in Charlottet­own, Tangier, Sable River, Lockport, Truro area, Barrington Passage, New Waterford and Alberton. Jean, who had taught in P.E.I. in 1941/42, returned to teaching in 1955 and specialize­d in working with special needs students. She retired from teaching in 1981 when they moved to England to be closer to Tom’s elderly parents and Tom became the parish priest in Misterton. They spent the first years after Tom’s 1987 retirement in Winchcombe. After returning to Canada in 1997 they initially resided in Huntley and Charlottet­own, P.E.I. before returning to New Waterford in 2002. With the assistance of son Rod and his wife Terry and excellentc­are provided by New Waterford Homemakers, Jean was able to live in her own apartment until the fall of 2015 when she entered assisted living facilities. Many Thanks to the staff of Maple Hill Manor, the New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital and Dr. Farrell for the care they provided Jean. She was predecease­d by husband Tom in 2006, oldest son David in 2013, her parents, brothers Andrew (Rena), Kenneth, Harold (Dorothy) and Eddie (Mary). She is survived by sister Anna (Lloyd) Gibson, sister-in-law Dot (Harold) MacRae, daughters Cheryl (Emerson) Sanford, Jill (Jacques) Leger and sons Rod (Terry) and Edward (Ann). She will be fondly remembered by her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren, numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 13 at All Saints Anglican Church, New Waterford with reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, P.E.I. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to All Saints Memorial Fund or a charity one’s choice.
