Take Our Kids to Work Day is Wednesday

Charlottetown Rural High School

The student council is holding an open council meeting today at 11:40 a.m. in the lecture theatre. All are welcome to attend as nonexecutive council members to help in the planning of upcoming school events.

Peru Service Learning Trip citrus sale ends today. Anyone wishing to buy fresh oranges or pink grapefruit to support CRHS students who will be travelling to Peru on March break to take part in sustainable living projects there, should contact Kathie Kaulbach, Philip Pierlot or Danielle MacIsaac at the Rural.

Kinkora Regional High School

Nov. 14 is Take Our Kids to Work Day for all Grade 9 students. It’s also pie pick-up between 3:30-6 p.m. at the Kinkora Fire Hall. All pies are to be picked up by the student/seller only.

A pancake breakfast fundraiser is Nov. 18, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. at Kinkora Place.

Parent/teacher interviews are Nov. 22, 3:30-8 p.m. and Nov. 23, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. This is a great opportunity to discuss the student’s progress and discover upcoming units of study as well. Bon voyage to Grade 10 student Ty Arsenault who will be attending Encounters with Canada in Ottawa from Nov. 18-24. Sports and fitness is the theme of the week.

The Workers Compensation Board of P.E.I.’s Occupational Health and Safety Leadership Program is in full swing at KRHS. OHS leaders for the school year are Grade 12 student Dakota MacWilliams and Grade 11 student Emma-Grace Coyle.

Grade 12 student Dakota MacWilliams has been selected to represent KRHS as a page for the 2018/2019 session of the P.E.I. Legislative Assembly.

Nathaniel Pickering, Grade 12 and Abi Hamilton, Grade 11 are representing KRHS at Rotary Youth Parliament. Nathaniel will be the deputy premier while Abi will be minister of agriculture. Parliamentary session for the students will be at the Coles Building (next to Province House) on Nov. 16 -17. Appreciation is expressed to teacher adviser Kevin Stewart.

Montague Regional High School

Picture retakes are Nov 16, 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the library. Students requiring retakes should listen for the announcement. They will be called down by homeroom.

Come out and enjoy a night of painting at MRHS on Nov. 29 from 6-8 p.m. For $25 get food, drink and a painting to take home.

Artisans on Main Christmas opening for the gallery is Dec. 4-15 for second year students who will have their work presented. All money raised will go to the students.

Parents are encouraged to contact the main office at 902-8380835 and ask to be signed up for student achieve system. This program enables parents to check for their son/daughter’s attendance.

Teacher Matt Kelly recently spent a week in Ottawa participating in the Teachers Institute on Canadian Parliamentary Democracy. He is also the P.E.I. rep on the teachers’ advisory committee for the next three years for this event.

Some MRHS students recently spent a week in Toronto showing at the Royal Agriculture Winter Fair. Attending the fair with 4-H Royal Beef Team were Daniel Naddy, Sawyer Acorn, Isabella Acorn, Molly Loane, Maddie Pirch and Darcy Pirch.

Morell Regional High School

Appreciation is expressed to students, staff and community members who volunteered in the recent Remembrance Day ceremony. The school band performed several musical arrangements, and one student in particular made a great solo effort with “The Last Post.” Appreciation is also expressed to the Royal Canadian Legion members who shared a message about sacrifice and the importance of peace and freedom in today’s world.

Take Our Kids to Work is Nov. 14 and appreciation is expressed to those who will welcome Grade 9 students for a day of work, training and education.

The school library is holding a fundraiser at Indigo bookstore on Nov. 20 from 6-9 p.m. A portion of the sales will be donated to the library, so people are encouraged to stop in, peruse a few titles, and perhaps make a purchase or two.

The music department is also participating in a cookie dough and pretzel fundraiser during the month of November. Information and order forms have been sent home with students.

Parents/guardians are reminded that parent/teacher Interviews will be held Nov. 22, 6- 8:30 p.m. and Nov. 23, 9 a.m.2:30 p.m. There will be no classes for students on that Friday. Report cards will be available at the interviews, however, if a parent/ guardian is unable to attend, the report card will be sent home with the student on Nov. 27.

Colonel Gray High School

On Nov. 15, Colonel Gray Band will perform with the UPEI Wind Symphony at the Homburg Theatre at 7 p.m.

St. Thomas University will be visiting student services at lunch on Nov. 20.

Parent-teacher interviews are Nov. 22 (6:30–9 p.m.) and Nov. 23 (9 a.m.–1 p.m.)

Colonel Gray Band craft fair is Nov. 23 (5:30–9 p.m.) and Nov. 24 (10 a.m.–5 p.m.) Admission is $3.

There will be no classes on Nov. 26.

Life Touch graduation photos will be taken in the school library Nov. 26–Dec. 7. All students must be photographed to be included on the wall composite. St. Francis Xavier University will be visiting student services at lunch on Nov. 28 and Mount Allison University on Nov. 29. St. Mary’s University will also be at the Delta Charlottetown on Nov. 29 from 7–8:30 p.m.

The Community Service Bursary Program permits students in Grades 10-12 to accumulate volunteer hours, calculated at a rate of $5 per hour. Students need to register at www.studentloan@gov.pe.ca or by calling 902368-4640. They can accumulate a minimum of 30 hours, up to a maximum of 150 hours. These CSB hours will then be credited to the student’s post-secondary account.
