Holland College men’s, women’s basketball teams beat ACAA competitio­n

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams went 4-for-4 versus Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (ACAA) competitio­n over the weekend at home.

Sunday, the men thumped the King’s College Blue Devils 120-65 on Jace Colley’s 25-points, sevenrebou­nd, seven-assist game.

Roosevelt Whyley added 17 points and 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks, while Martin Campbell (16 points), Jordan Holness (15), Antonio Kostakos (14) and Agak Lual (10) chipped in double-digit games.

On the women’s side Sunday, the

‘Canes used pair of quick threepoint baskets at the start of the second half to take the lead and an eventual 76-61 win.

Jayla Verney’s 20 points and seven assists paced the ‘Canes offence, while Ashley Plaggenhoe­f (16 points, seven boards) and Tyleigha Nelson (16 points, nine rebounds) and Lexi MacInnis (15 points) contribute­d to the win.

Saturday, the men trounced the Dal-AC Rams 119-43 led by Colley and Kostakos each draining 24 points. Colley added 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the women hammered Dal-AC 112-20 paced by Plaggenhoe­f (21 points), MacInnis (18), Briontae Riley (18), Sydney Goode (14), Kassandra Little (13) and Antenique Young (11) all reaching double figures.

The women evened their record at 3-3, good for a third-place tie with St. Thomas in the ACAA standings.

The men lead their circuit at 6-0.

Both Holland College squads return to the court Friday versus the Mount Allison Mounties at Holland College. Game times are 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men.
