Metros push win streak to five games

Sellick, Ellsworth have big nights in Tignish victory

Marc Cummiskey and Shawn Corney each had a goal and two assists as the Sherwood Metros improved to a Razzy’s Junior C Hockey League-leading 10-1-0 Saturday with a 7-4 victory over the North River Flames.

Brian Leslie had a goal and an assist in the victory at APM Centre while Patrick Kenny, Alex MacEachern, Will Levasseur and Nick Brown also scored.

Ethan Larocque had three helpers while Hunter Boudreau added one.

It was the Metro’s fifth straight win.

Tanner Power scored three goals for the Flames while Ethan MacFadyen added one. Connor Gauthier had three assists, Ben Doucette a pair and singles went to Drew Nelson and Johnny Goyette.

James Duffy made 25 stops for the victory while Ryan Clory was peppered with 38 shots in the loss.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while the Metros took a 4-3 lead to the third. Sherwood went 3-for-5 on the power and killed all five of North River’s chances.

The Flames (2-8-1) are in the basement of the five-team league.

Lynx 4, Crunch 2

Kyle MacGuigan had a goal and an assist Saturday to lead the host Southside MacDonald’s Excavation/E.F. MacPhee Lynx to a 4-2 victory over the Summerside Cover All Constructi­on Crunch.

Colin Goodwin, Brandon Johnston and Ean Killam also scored in the victory while Mac Buchanan, Tyson Beckingham and Nathan Paynter had the assists.

Tyler Power and James Birt replied for the Crunch with Remi Arsenault and Dalton Kemp each being credited with an assist.

Caelen Ferguson made 35 saves for the victory while Devon Newberry stopped 30 shots in the loss.

The game was tied 2-2 after the first period while Southside led 3-2 heading to the second. The Lynx went 2-for-2 on the power play while the Crunch went 1-for4.

Southside improved to while the Crunch are 3-6-0.

Aces 9, Crunch 2

3-4-1

The Tignish Perry’s Constructi­on Aces put up six second period goals to defeat the Crunch 9-2.

Dawson Sellick had three goals to lead the home side to victory while Will Tuplin and Morgan Grigg each netted a pair. Brady Albert and Kane Arsenault contribute­d singles.

Cody Ellsworth had four assists while Lexin Gaudet had three and a pair went to Cameron Gillis, Brayden Handrahan, Brayden Arsenault and James Doyle. Tuplin, Riley Avery and Ryan Campbell each chipped in one.

James Birt and Brandon Hastings replied with the Crunch’s goals while Dexter Harper had two assists and Kolton Stright one.

Colin Gaudette made 12 stops for the victory while Izaac Ford allowed seven goals on 36 shots in 40 minutes of action before Devon Newberry stopped eight of 10 shots in the third period.

The Aces, who held 1-0 and 7-1 period leads, improved to 7-4-0 and sit second in the circuit.
