Holland College full-time programs accepting new students in January

-

Several Holland College fulltime programs are accepting applications for a January intake, giving prospective students the opportunity to begin their training in the New Year rather than waiting until next September.

Holland College registrar Maureen Duffy said the new January intake applies to programs in the areas of business, health, policing and one trades program, plumbing/pipefitting.

“There is a shortage of qualified plumbers and pipefitters on the Island,” said Paul Murnaghan, program manager for the Georgetown programs. “The January intake will enable our students to work in the field throughout the summer and then complete their training in the fall.”

The plumbing/pipefitting program is unique because graduates are qualified to enter either trade. Students receive credit for 30 hours of apprenticeship time each week of the program for a total of 900 hours and are eligible to write the apprenticeship Level One exam in both plumbing and pipefitting.

Business programs with January intakes include business administration, accounting technology, tourism and travel management, sport and leisure management, marketing and advertising management and occupational health and safety technology. All the business programs are offered in Charlottetown, either on the Prince of Wales Campus or in the Tourism and Culinary Centre, except for the one-year occupational health and safety technology, which is a blended program, including distance learning and face-to-face classes in the evenings on the Summerside Waterfront Campus.

The two-year international hospitality management program, one of the program offerings of the Culinary Institute of Canada in the Tourism and Culinary Centre, will also welcome new students in January.

In the field of health, the oneyear resident care worker program will be offered in Montague and the two-year practical nursing program will be offered on the Summerside Waterfront Campus.

The Atlantic Police Academy’s police science (cadet) program is also accepting applications for January.
