Hurricanes return to court versus Seawolves, Mounties

-

The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams return to the court with road games against the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday and home contests versus the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday.

Saturday, the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) games go at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) in Saint John, N.B. Sunday it’s 2 p.m. for the women, 4 p.m. for the men, at Holland College.

The women begin the second half at 3-5, tied with UNBSJ for fifth place.

The Mounties (5-3) sit in third place, while the

8-0 Mount Saint Vincent Mystics lead the circuit.

Holland College dropped the first matchup versus

UNBSJ in November. It’s the first time the ‘Canes and the Mounties have met this season.

The women’s side added guard Danielle MacKinnon. The Valleyview, Alta., native, played three games in limited action last season with the Edmonton-based King’s University Eagles. She’s enrolled in the business administration program.

The men’s Hurricanes (8-0) sit in first place, while UNBSJ is tied for fifth at 3-5 and Mount Allison is tied for third at 5-3.

The ‘Canes defeated the Seawolves in the only meeting this season and it’s also the first Hurricanes-Mounties tilt this season.

The men, ranked second nationally, welcome the return of six-foot-three forward Travis Adams as the Halifax native begins his second stint with the Hurricanes. He played with the ‘Canes in 2015-17 and during 41 games averaged about 16 points and seven rebounds per game. Adams was named an ACAA second-team all-star in 2016 and is in the sports and leisure management program.
