Hurricanes men finish regular season 21-0

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s basketball team completed is second perfect season in team history after a 91-83 victory over Mount Saint Vincent in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n action Saturday in Halifax.

It went 18-0 in 2014-15. Holland College held a onepoint lead after the first quarter and was tied with feisty Mystics 38-38 at halftime. Trailing by three points entering the final quarter, the Hurricanes broke out and completed the comeback win.

Jordan Holness scored 21 points for the ‘Canes, while Martin Campbell contribute­d 18. Other Hurricanes with double digit points were Travis Adams (15), Connor Therrien (13) and Jace Colley (11).

Tario Sands led the Mystics with 22 points.

On the women’s side, the Hurricanes fell to the top-ranked Mystics 110-52.

Maria Carroll led the way with 22 points in the win as the Mystics held quarter leads of 27-15, 50-31 and 82-39.

Keionia Beals had 14 points and Ashley Plaggenhoe­f chipped in 13 points for Holland College, which finished 7-14 and out of the postseason.

The men go into the ACAA championsh­ip, hosted by Crandall University in Moncton, as the No. 1 seed and get a bye into Saturday’s semifinals along with the second-seeded Mystics.
