New breakfast restaurant opens in downtown Summerside
SUMMERSIDE — Uncle Mike’s family is growing again.
Mike Perry and his partners have taken over 311 Market St., previously known as Local 311, and are rebranding and relaunching it as The Breakfast Spot.
The new restaurant has been under renovations and was scheduled to open March 21.
This will be the third restaurant Perry’s opened in Summerside in less than 12 months.
“I wanted to bring something that is fresh and vibrant, just like Summerside. Summerside to me … it’s on the come-up. That’s why we chose to park ourselves here,” said Perry.
The Breakfast Spot will focus entirely on all-day breakfast foods and will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Perry acquired the property after Local 311 closed suddenly in January.
He saw a need for more breakfast options in downtown Summerside and thought the location and premise was a good opportunity, he said.
“I feel like there was a void in downtown Summerside that needed to be filled for all-day breakfast.”
The Breakfast Spot will join the Perry family’s rapidly growing holdings in Prince County. Their restaurants now include Uncle Mike’s Bar & Grill at 271 Water St., Uncle Mike’s on the Water at 150 Heather Moyse Dr. and a fourth, yet to be renovated, restaurant called Uncle Mike’s Up West, which is replacing the now closed Route 145 Bar and Grill in the Bloomfield Mall. Renovation and rebranding at the latter location is set to start once The Breakfast Spot opens.
Despite the proximity of the Summerside restaurants, Perry doesn’t feel he’s competing with himself. Uncle Mike’s on the Water serves a seasonal and tourist-focused, menu. day, which is not available at the bar and grill. Robert Gallant, owner of Michael’s Pizzeria and president of Downtown Summerside Inc., welcomed news of The Breakfast Spot’s imminent opening.
“I’m thrilled,” said Gallant, praising the Perry family’s investment in the city.
“I guess they feel Summerside is a great place for them to invest their money and that makes me feel good to know that they have that kind of confidence in Summerside.”
