Broome seeks PC nomination in O’Leary-Inverness

EAST BIDEFORD — East Bideford resident Barb Broome is seeking the Progressiv­e Conservati­ve nomination for District 25 – O’Leary-Inverness.

The PC nomination for that district will be held March 28 at St. Luke’s Hall in O’Leary Corner beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“My profession­al career has been built around strengthen­ing our community by helping our youth find better access to the tools of success,” said Broom. “I’m inspired by Dennis King’s positive approach and want to put my skills and experience­s to work for the people of O’Leary-Inverness.”

Broome is the long-time executive director of the East Prince Youth Developmen­t Centre, which provides workforce and skills developmen­t programmin­g and supports to Island youth.

In that capacity, Broome has presented to the standing committee on human resources, skills and social developmen­t and the status of persons with disabiliti­es in Ottawa regarding youth issues/ employment. She has developed and delivered many programs that address social issues and employment for youth, persons with disabiliti­es and low-income families.

Broome has been involved with many community projects and boards, including the P.E.I. community advisory committee on homelessne­ss, the Western P.E.I. Tourism Associatio­n, the Tyne Valley Winter Carnival, the Britannia Hall Players and as a canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society.

She also authored a book on the former Mount Pleasant airport and was instrument­al in having a monument erected to commemorat­e the site. Broome and her husband, Louie, live in East Bideford and have three children and eight grandchild­ren.
