The funeral for Vernita Fleming (nee MacIntyre), wife of the late James Fleming, of the Atlantic Baptist Nursing Home and formerly of Cornwall, was held on Friday, March 15, 2019, at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Cornwall. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Doug MacDonald, who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by her sons, Terry, John and Jason Fleming. The first reading, from Ecclesiast­es, was addressed by John MacDonald. The second reading, from II Corinthian­s, was addressed by Jennifer Lenentine. Prayers of the faithful were led by Father MacDonald. The altar servers were Loyola Griffin, Kay Larkin and Mary Hagen. Liz Murphy and Mary Hagen assisted Father MacDonald as Eucharisti­c ministers. The music was provided by the church choir with Bernie field as organist. The hymns were Entrance, “Here I Am, Lord”; Psalm, “The Lord’s My Shepherd”; offertory, “Beyond the Moon and Stars; communion, “One Love Released”; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary pallbearer­s were everyone present. Pallbearer­s were Joey MacDonald, Lenny Murphy, Jim Clark, Mike Murphy, Robert Cole and Steven MacPhail. Flower bearers were granddaugh­ters, Alyssa and Emma Fleming. Interment will take place at a later date in the St. Martin and St. Francis Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cumberland. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen`s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
