Repeat drunk driver jailed

- RYAN ROSS

A P.E.I. man who was caught after police received a report of an erratic driver was sentenced recently to 35 days in jail for driving drunk.

Darren Gordon MacNevin, 45, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he entered a guilty plea.

The court heard the police arrested MacNevin after a complaint from the public. He later provided breathalyzer samples that were more than 1.5 times the legal limit.

MacNevin had a prior related conviction from 2016.

The court heard MacNevin realized he had an unhealthy binge-drinking habit and has since sought help.

Along with the jail time, which MacNevin will serve on weekends, he is banned from driving for one year and must pay a $1,000 fine.
