RELEASE EXPENSE INFORMATION ON QUEBEC CITY CONFERENCE

-

Taxpayers of the City of Summerside have every right to know how many councillors went with our mayor to Quebec City for the municipal leaders’ meetings. A lot of controversy has erupted in some municipalities concerning how many members were sent and at what costs. The residents of Summerside should demand a full report printed in our local paper explaining the total costs and the benefit for each member. I have emailed Coun. Cory Snow for these details and he informed me he would pass my request on to the CAO. With all due respect, this decision is not up to the CAO to release expenses of the mayor and council when tax dollars are at stake. This is a decision by city council. I question why we as citizens have to ask for such information. This is tax dollars and people should be advised of such an expense without making requests. Past councils have engrained secrecy for years until (it) finally back fired. The mayor and council are elected to do a job, and are well compensated, so let’s hear the facts.

Summerside
