Open mic set for June 13
Steven Mayoff featured reader at P.E.I. Writers Guild event
Steven Mayoff will be the featured reader at the P.E.I. Writers’ Guild open mic today at Receiver Coffee Co., 128 Richmond St., in Charlottetown, beginning at 7 p.m.
Mayoff, who was born and raised in Montreal, moved to Prince Edward Island in 2001. His fiction and poetry have appeared in literary journals across Canada, the U.S. and abroad. His books include the story collection entitled “Fatted Calf Blues”, the novel, “Our Lady Of Steerage”, the poetry chapbook, “Leonard’s Flat”, and the full-length poetry collection, “Swinging Between Water and Stone”.
“Leonard’s Flat” is a chapbook of 10 linked poems based on 10 paintings by Mayoff’s uncle, Len Fligel, who was an artist and teacher in Glasgow, Scotland. “Swinging Between Water and Stone” is a collection of poems comprising four sections, roughly representing the four stages of the never-ending reincarnation cycle: birth, life, death and rebirth.
All are welcome to this free event.
The first 10 writers to sign up may read from their work – poetry or prose – for up to five minutes. Following a short break, Mayoff will read.
This is the last open mic from the P.E.I. Writers’ Guild before the summer break.
The event will return in the fall and will continue to run on the second Thursday of each month.
