Annual CIBC Run for the Cure set for Oct. 6

-

Canadians will unite as a forcefor-life against breast cancer at the CIBC Run for the Cure on Oct. 6

Charlottetown will once again be one of the 57 locations on the first Sunday in October.

The CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest, single-day, volunteerled event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research and to supporting programs such as their Peer Match program, helpline and breast cancer support group facilitator training.

Since its inception in 1992, the run has raised over $445 million.

“Each year, the CIBC Run for the Cure unites a collective of Canadians who are a force-forlife in the face of breast cancer,” says Andrea Seale, Interim CEO, Canadian Cancer Society. “With the support of that collective, we fund the best breast cancer research, provide the largest cancer support system in the country and act as a voice for Canadians, advocating for important social change.”

Funds raised through the CIBC Run for the Cure have led to more information about how to prevent, diagnose, treat and live with – and beyond – breast cancer.

Breast cancer’s mortality rate has been reduced by 44 per cent since its peak in the mid-1980s.

“You might ask why we’re still raising funds for the breast cancer cause, and while we’ve certainly made huge strides in breast cancer, every day, more than 70 Canadians will receive a diagnosis,” said Seale. “We must keep investing in the breast cancer cause so that more and more people can continue to survive their diagnoses and enjoy a better quality of life.”
