Owen Steel plays Oct. 22
P.E.I. native featured in Trailside Cafe show
The Trailside Cafe in Mount Stewart will present one of its final shows of the season featuring songwriter Owen Steel on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The 31-year-old tune weaver was raised between a farmhouse in Flat River, P.E.I., and a rambling seaside hostel in St. Andrews, N.B.
The later location hosted an array of revered touring musicians who instilled within him an interest in songwriting, performance, and rambling.
Touring from Newfoundland to the Yukon, Texas to Sweden, and points in between, Steel has carved out a small, yet recognizable place in the musical landscape over the past decade.
Writing and releasing an assortment of garage/folk material that runs the gamut from simple and coy, to ugly and bizarre, his style has garnered multiple accolades, including from Canadian Roots Icon, Fred Eaglesmith, who has called Owen “one of the best I've heard in years”.
Steel recently took part in a Banff Centre Residency where he worked with engineer/producer Howard Bilerman (Leonard Cohen, Arcade Fire). He has collaborated/recorded with classical harpist Sarah Pagé and Fredericton based art punks, Motherhood. The project which resulted in a five song EP paired with a comic book.
Doors and dinner are at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 8 p.m.
