CFIA recalls Compliments brand vegetable products because of food health hazard

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) has recalled Compliments brand fresh-cut vegetable products because of a possible health hazard risk of listeria in the food.

The compliments brand is sold by company Sobeys Inc. in nine provinces across Canada including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan.

On the CFIA website, the food recall warning, issued on October 30, 2019 has been updated to Nov. 1 (the official recall date) to include additional product information and information was identified during the food safety investigation.

The following products have been sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

On the CFIA website, if residents think they’ve became sick from consuming a recalled product, they should call their doctor.

Residents should check to see if you have the recalled products in your home and if so, those products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth.

In severe cases of illness, people may die.

On the CFIA website, there has been no reported case of illnesses since the warning was sent out by the CFIA on Nov. 1.
