Property plans get preliminary approval in Alberton

-

ALBERTON – Alberton town council has given its approval in principle to two property development applications in advance of survey and rezoning work.

Donna Thompson, CAO for the West Prince town, explained that the Phillips Residence is changing its rooms around and is in need of more parking.

She said the facility can obtain space from the provincial government behind the nearby Access P.E.I. building for additional parking, but was wanting for some sort of assurance from the town that the change would be permitted before it proceeded with the surveying expense.

She said the Phillips Residence would bring its plans back to council for final approval once the survey is competed.

Council, on a motion by councillor Kelly Williams, granted preliminary approval.

Council also heard JC Handyman owner, Joey Carragher, wants to put an extension on his commercial property at 534 Church St. He has two lots, one with the store and one currently vacant. Both are already zoned commercial.

He obtained preliminary approval to consolidate the two lots into one. He will present his plan to council once he has a survey completed.

Thompson said the size of the lots would accommodate what the business owner has planned.

“He’s got the space and everything around him is commercial,” Thompson reported.

“What you’re agreeing to, in theory, that once we have the final plan and he has enough space and that, then you would approve it at that time.”

Council also passed a motion to start the process of rezoning a Dufferin Street property from residential to commercial.

The rezoning would allow Glenn Adams to erect a large storage shed on the property.
