The newest member of the Holland College Hurricanes women’s basketball team is looking forward to her first home game in the maroon, black and white.

Courtney Cain-Nordin makes her home debut Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the University of King’s College Blue Devils in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season action. The teams complete the weekend set Sunday at 2 p.m. in Charlottetown.

Cain-Nordin comes to town after playing three seasons for the Saint Mary’s Huskies (2015-18).

“I am an all-around, wellbalanced player,” said the five-foot-nine forward from Halifax. “I have the strength and size that allows me to excel in the post, along with the ability to control and shoot the ball, which makes me a threat from behind the three-point line.”

She made an immediate impact in her first game with the ’Canes, an 80-60 victory over the Crandall Chargers in Moncton on Saturday. She led the team with 22 points.

Chris Connolly, in his debut season as the Hurricanes head coach, said he is excited to have Cain-Nordin on the roster.

“She is a versatile forward that will impact both ends of the floor,” he said. “She brings experience, and a skill set that will fit in nicely with our style of play.”

Cain-Nordin won’t be the first member of her family to play for the Hurricanes.

“I have wanted to further my education for some time now, and my older brother is a former member of the men’s basketball team,” she said. “So, playing for the Hurricanes is something I have wanted to do.”

Jayden Nordin played with the Hurricanes from 2015-17.

With three years of playing experience at the U SPORTS level, including a national bronze medal, Cain-Nordin hopes to make an impact and do everything she can to help the Hurricanes compete for a championship this season.
