GRAND OPENING

-

Loan Oak Brewery will have its official grand opening in Borden-Carleton.

A couple of months after opening its doors, Borden-Carleton's Lone Oak Brewing Co. is holding its official grand opening on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The public portion of the grand opening is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with live music by Max Koughan. At 6:45 p.m., a ribbon cutting ceremony is planned with government officials and co-owners Jared Murphy, Spencer Gallant and Dillon Wight. After that, more music is planned with a surprise musical guest and surprise band as well as a performance by The Poets.

The owners are also planning to release two new beers. Lone Oak is located in the town's Gateway Village (103 Abegweit Blvd.) The event has a $20 coverage charge for the evening.

They secured their shop in December of 2019, meaning they had one month to prepare everything. Learning the rules and regulations for running a business in Charlottetown was challenging at first, but the final result paid off.

The café can seat about 20 people, and on opening day it was packed with customers coming and going, many being members of P.E.I.’s Vietnamese community. In the middle of the café is a large table to sit around, as the Nguyens want it to be a social and family-friendly environment, Ha said.

“It’s a place to chill.”

Now that bingsu is available on P.E.I., she said it could end up being a great treat for downtown Charlottetown to cool off this summer.

“In the summertime we’re going to stretch our hours. If it’s really successful, (we) might consider opening a second location.”
