The Heart and Stroke Foundation is partnering with the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission again this year for the ninth annual Paper Hearts campaign, a fundraiser that has raised more than $100,000 for Heart & Stroke’s mission of preventing disease, saving lives and promoting recovery.

During Heart Month in February, the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) will invite customers to purchase $2 paper hearts in all corporate retail liquor outlets in support of the campaign.

“Partnerships such as this make it possible for Heart & Stroke to commit to new areas of focus, including advocating for children’s health policies and creating momentum for improved diagnosis, care and outcomes for women experiencing heart disease and stroke,” said Mary Ann Butt, CEO Heart & Stroke PEI, NS, and NL.

Darlene Compton, minister responsible for the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission, says money raised through the sale of paper hearts allows the province to invest in the right kind of research and gain the knowledge needed to save lives.

“Heart disease impacts all Islanders through their family, friends, and peers, and we are happy to be part of this wonderful initiative to raise money that will go towards research that will continue to assist those living with heart disease.”
