LETTER OF THANKS

-

I believe our chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison and Premier Dennis King deserve our gratitude for their continuing efforts to protect Islanders against COVID-19. We are not alone in this. Countries around the world are struggling with COVID-19-related illness, deaths and fiscal collapse. Fear and/or denial of COVID-19 at varying levels, has taken hold and divided our societies. But thanks to Dr. Morrison and Premier King, the approach to this global pandemic on Prince Edward Island has been based on science and their approach has also placed a significant emphasis on the need for social inclusiveness and kindness. Dr. Morrison and Premier King have put the well-being of Islanders at the core of the plan to Renew P.E.I. Together. After listening to Dr. Morrison and Premier King’s recent briefings and news items, it is apparent to me that they are also paying a high price for their endeavours to keep us healthy. I want to let them know they are appreciated. As a member of the silent-nomore majority, I am grateful for their efforts and can only imagine what they have endured in getting us this far. We don’t know what will come next but knowing there is a balanced, thoughtful and caring approach to combating whatever this pandemic throws at us helps me sleep better at night. I am also grateful for the work and commitment of all the front-line workers in this crisis. Decisionmaking is never without risk but it seems to me this Island’s leadership is bringing their best and that’s the most we can fairly ask of them. To Dr. Morrison and Premier King thank you for all you are doing to keep us safe, thank you for bringing your best.
