Legacy Giving

-

Vance Glover recently celebrated his 60th birthday and was thankful to be with his family for this important milestone event. As he reflected on his life so far, he thought specifically of the past twenty-one years and the gratitude he has for the people who cared for him during the most difficult time in his life. “In July of 1999, my car was hit in a tragic car accident that took my daughter Christina’s life at the tender age of 13 years,” said Glover. “She would be 34 years old today.” Glover sustained life threatening injuries in the accident and was transported by ambulance to the emergency department of the QEH where he was then air-lifted to Moncton. He remained in a coma for six weeks.

Vance returned home to the QEH’s rehabilitation unit and required physiotherapy for more than a year. He recalls that some of the best healing happened at QEH when he could be surrounded by his family and friends.

After recovery from his injuries, Vance started volunteering at the QEH. “Something miraculous happened when I started to volunteer and deliver the newspapers and the mail to patients; my healing continued. I developed so many friendships there at the QEH and also with the staff who cared for me. I still see so many friendly faces from staff members who recognize me when I go for appointments.”

“I was always moved by the care I received and the love and attention Christina had received,” says Glover. I decided this was a perfect time to say thanks by leaving a gift in my Will to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.”

Glover thinks his gift will also be a wonderful way to keep Christina’s spirit alive. “By making this gift, both our names will be forever remembered.”
