Live music

The Kirk of St. James Summer Recital Series continues at the church, 35 Fitzroy St., Charlottet­own, on Thursdays, 12:10 p.m. Physical distancing will take place. The first one is by Frances McBurnie, piano, July 30 – Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Donations will be received toward the Kirk’s Choral Scholarshi­ps, a program which supports university music students while they contribute to the Kirk’s worship service.

The Ceilidh at the Irish Hall on July 31, 8 p.m., features Cian O Morain and Mary MacGillivr­ay with guest fiddler Colin Jeffrey. There will be a 50/50 draw, and a light snack is served during intermissi­on. Tickets are at the door which opens at 7 p.m. The ceilidh is in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall at the Irish Cultural Centre at 582 North River Rd. Set in the Sun, a 12-part free outdoor concert series in the outdoor amphitheat­re of Confederat­ion Centre of the Arts, features Island songwriter­s or instrument­al duos performing a live concert, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 5 p.m. with Anna Blanco on Aug. 1 and Nick Doneff on Aug. 5. A special 10th anniversar­y Ceilidh In the City concert, featuring performanc­es by the Ceilidh Band (Kendall Docherty, Peter Burke, Brian Blacquire, Heartz Godkin, Brian Knox) and special guests Keelin Wedge and Eddie Quinn, is Aug. 5 at the Brackley Drive-In Theatre. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. for general admission with a 6:30 p.m. showtime (weather permitting). Enjoy one of P.E.I.’s long-running ceilidhs from the comfort and safety of a car. Peake’s Wharf free Summer Concert Series, an outdoor concert event on the Charlottet­own waterfront, features two shows per day (weather permitting). The Confederat­ion Brass Quintet presents live recitals on the outdoor plaza of Confederat­ion Centre of the Arts, corner of Queen and Grafton streets, Tuesday to Saturday, 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., until Aug. 29. With a mix of popular and classical tunes arranged for brass, the quintet is comprised of horn, trombone, tuba and two trumpets, played by Henry Orford, Shaw Nicholson, Justin Amador, Connor Nabuurs and Olivia MacPhail.

Facebook LIVE concert is being held Sundays throughout August during the Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series. The third of nine shows with feature country singer-songwriter Lawrence Maxwell and will take place on Aug. 2, 7 p.m., featuring Josiane and Jacques Comeau. The show will be streamed LIVE from www.facebook.com/CDCPMC.

The Watermark Music Series is online, with concerts live-streamed while local musicians perform on the theatre stage in North Rustico. Ebb & Flow: Tides of Settlement on P.E.I., a heritage recognitio­n awardwinni­ng show, runs Saturdays until Aug. 22, 8-10 p.m., in Charlottet­own’s Beaconsfie­ld Carriage House, 2 Kent St. Through photograph­s, video and text, the show presents stories about the Indigenous Mi’kmaq and P.E.I.’s settlers presented by Teresa Kuo, Tiffany Liu, Julie Pellissier-Lush, Amanda Mark, Laurie Murphy, Vince the Messenger and Haley Zavo. There are 40 tickets per show, during Health P.E.I.’s Phase 4 regulation­s. The Songs of Anne & Gilbert, The

Musical, featuring a live band with singers and dancers performing the most memorable songs and dance numbers from the show, as well as numbers written for the musical but never performed, runs until Oct. 25. The Bedeque Area Historical Museum, located in the William Callbeck Centre, Central Bedeque, is open in July and August, Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Exhibits focus on the Loyalist settlement of the Bedeque Bay area, the Borden ferry service and on Callbeck’s country store, as well as the collection of the late Howard Clark’s Red Barn Museum relating to the social history of the area. The Bideford Parsonage Museum, a historical residence of famed Island author L.M. Montgomery during 1894-95, is located at 784 Bideford Rd., Route 166 in Bideford. It is open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is by donation. This museum is part of the newly launched L.M. Montgomery Literary Tour. Culture Summerside has installed a new 15-panel exhibit on downtown Water Street, which features architectu­ral elements of the city’s heritage district. Learn about the city’s most prominent architectu­ral elements through the photograph­y of John Clevett and the research and writing of archivist Jean MacKay.
