Hollywood summer heating up
While I have counted all of the floorboards in my kitchen, Hollywood has been busy! Album releases, engagements, births, sports and television – it’s all happening and I’m just here in my sweat suit taking it all in.
NEW ALBUM FOR TAYLOR SWIFT
Taylor Swift released her eighth studio album, Folklore, on July 24. Folklore sold 1.3 million copies in the first 24 hours, which is the exact number of ice cream sandwiches I eat per day. Taylor has now covered three genres of music; her previous albums were released under country and pop, with Folklore being her first to be released as alternative. Talk about a well-rounded artist, almost as well rounded as my ice cream sandwiches are making me! It is rumoured Taylor announced the name of good friends Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds third daughter, Betty, with a song of the same name. Within the song are the names of Blake and Ryan’s other daughters, Inez and James.
CIARA AND RUSSELL WILSON WELCOME BABY BOY
The pop star and quarterback welcomed their new son, Win Harrison Wilson, on July 23. Win was welcomed by sister, Sienna, 3, and brother Future, 6. Ciara released pictures and videos on her Instagram account of the adorable baby and their newly expanded family.
DEMI LOVATO AND MAX EHRICH ARE ENGAGED
In early March, pop star Demi Lovato revealed in multiple interviews that she was single, but it seems later that month she started seriously dating singer/actor Max Ehrich. On March 24, it was revealed the two were quarantining together and they decided to make the move permanent with a late July engagement. Demi’s ring looks like it ate five other celebrity rings – it is enormous. I guess 2020 hasn’t been awful for everyone.
WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM TO LA
Serena Williams, Natalie Portman, Mia Hamm, Abby Wambach,
Eva Longoria, America Ferrera, Uzo Aduba, Jennifer Garner and many others have invested to bring a National Women’s Soccer League team, Angel City FC, to LA. The team is set to start playing in 2022. I’ve never felt older or poorer than when I saw that Serena William’s daughter, Olympia, who is two years old, is also an investor. I once invested in a Domino’s pizza, but the return wasn’t great.
TYRA BANKS TO HOST DANCING WITH THE STARS
The former supermodel and businesswoman is set to replace Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews as the host of the 29th season of Dancing with the Stars. Bergeron hosted the show for 15 years, but the network opted for a hosting change due to poor ratings. Season 29 is set to air this fall.
REALITY TV WORTH WATCHING
While my mask wardrobe is expanding, my television tastes are not. I’ve been on a reality TV binge, and here’s what’s worth watching: Expecting Amy (Crave); Single Wives (Netflix) and Love on the Spectrum (Netflix). I am counting down the days until Selling Sunset Season 3 airs (Aug. 7 on Netflix). Keely Turner takes a look at pop culture through the eyes of a P.E.I. girl with a big city attitude.
