COVID-19 court case adjourned

THREE RIVERS – A man who tested positive for COVID-19 and is in jail after allegedly not self-isolating will try to get his release from custody today.

Javan Mizero Nsangira appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr Thursday in provincial court in Georgetown by video from jail where he has been in custody since his arrest on July 17.

Nsangria will appear before a justice of the peace this morning for a show cause hearing in an attempt to get released from custody while his matters are before the court.

His next appearance before Orr in Georgetown is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Nsangira is facing charges of uttering a threat and committing a nuisance by not self-isolating.

He also faces charges in Charlottetown that include a further count of committing a nuisance along with one count of assault, one count of mischief and a violation of the Public Health Act.

Prior to his arrest, Nsangira was staying at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort where he allegedly didn’t self-isolate after previously failing to do so in Charlottetown.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison recently said all confirmed COVID-19 cases in P.E.I. are considered recovered.
