NEW KID ON THE TRUCK

-

Borden-Carleton welcomed its newest firefighter at their July council meeting. Amanda Kingman, 18, was unanimously voted into the fire department by council.

“She started last year with our junior fire department,” said BordenCarleton Coun. Larry Allen, who is also a member of the fire department. “I didn’t believe any of them would stay more than a week. As soon as we give them their T-shirts, I figured they’d all be gone – and they’re all still there. “She’s a good kid. We (at the fire department) voted her in last week,” said Allen. Kingman is heading to university in the fall and said the skills she’s learned at junior firefighter training, such as knowing how to approach a situation and how to talk to people, will be useful. Until school starts, Kingman will be free to respond to calls with the rest of the volunteer firefighters in Borden-Carleton but continues to train with the junior firefighters.

“I come to hang out. I get excited to see them. You can’t just drop that.” Once the juniors’ practice is done, Kingman and the rest stick around and join the department’s training.
