Heat warning issued for Island
A heat warning is in effect for P.E.I., says Environment Canada.
It was issued on Sunday morning and runs through Tuesday as a hot and humid airmass will remain in place, with humidex values being highest today. A slightly cooler day is expected on Wednesday. Temperatures will reach a maximum near 29 C with a humidex between 34 C to 38 C. Minimum temperatures will be between 18 C and 20 C.
Extreme heat affects everyone and the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Environment Canada advises to drink plenty of water, shade yourself with an umbrella or a wide-brimmed hat and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
